Hooray for Julia
I was intrigued with the story of little 9 year old Julia. As a person with long hair, this thoughtful child has decided to donate 10 inches of her blond locks to a non-profit organization called Locks for Love. Locks of Love provides hairpieces to those younger than 18 who suffer from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. What a wonderful thing for a young child to do. On Friday, June 15th, little Julia will go to the cutter on Second street. Actually, I don’t mind plugging the business, which is known as Shear Pleasure.
Julia apparently has done her homework on the nonprofit and who benefits from the hair donations. She understands that the hairpieces go to children battling alopecia areata (a condition with no known cause or cure in which children lose their hair) and to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
I am impressed. And as she waits anxiously for Friday to arrive, I’m certain Julia will ponder what it will be like having shorter hair just in time for the hot summer months. After a little research, I have found that the minimum donation is exactly 10 inches.
I have at least that, but after many years of length, I would find it difficult to chop my hair off. This little girl should stand as an inspiration to all the other kids out there with lengthy locks who would like to cut their hair, but maybe are unaware what they can do with it. Way to go kiddo!
